SDS Drills Fitment Guides
Do you know the difference between the SDS Max and SDS Plus Masonry Drill Systems?
The name SDS comes from the German “steck, dreh, sitzt” (insert, twist, fits). Competitors publicise the system on the international market as Special Direct System, although in German speaking nations it is more commonly known as “Spannen Durch System” (Clamping System).
SDS Plus Group – 2 Grooves – 2 Slots
Standard SDS – Plus is the most common fitment on the market. It fits all brands of SDS Drills Excluding Some SDS Ramset drills. The shank inserts 40mm into the chuck. It is rated for hammers up to 4kg.
SDS-XR3 Range - This has a slightly different groove system making it suitable for all brands of SDS Drills including Ramset. R3 Drills are also sometimes referred to as Multi-fit.

SDS Max is the standard fitting in all larger Rotary hammer drills. Generally all drills with a capacity large than 26mm are SDS Max.
The SDS Max is a universal fitment that suits all brands of drills. The shank inserts 90mm into the chuck. SDS Max is rated for hammers over 5kg.
