What is the Tinite Coating on Alpha Drills?
Alpha Gold Series drills have a Tinite (TiN) coating.
Titanium Nitride is a gold coloured substance with a surface hardness of approximately 85 Rc.
This is deposited onto the drill which extends tool life by reducing friction,
and therefore heat, and enables the tool to be operated at high speeds and feeds.
Stainless steel, one of the hardest composites to drill, has a Rockwell hardness (Rc) rating of 90.
The Tinite coating is 85 Rc, added to the 135 degree split point and M-2 grade steel core,
meaning Alpha is the best drill for aluminium or any other ferrous material.
